Q: stew meat and the crock pot- NO BEEF STEW RECIPES!!!?
I have 2lbs of beautiful stew meat that I would like to slow cook in the crock pot, but I don't have any recipes other than those for beef stew, which I am completely tired of! Any recipes would be greatly appreciated!
a beef tips and gravy recipe would be good.
OR I heard of a chuck wagon recipe, but cannot find it that calls for stew meat, sausage and baked beans. If you have it I would really love to get it!
A: Beef Tips and Gravy
I first make sure I have all the meat cut in chunks the same size.
I flour mine in seasoned flour and pan fry them to lock in the juices of the meat. I only fry them in enough oil to slightly cover the meat and all sides. Not completely done.
I transfer my meat to a slow cooker as I fry them up and after I have fried all the meat chunks I make a gravy with the remaining oil and seasoned flour. Salt and pepper to taste.
I pour my gravy mixture over my meat and add chicken stock to this to make a thin gravy base to cover all the meat in the crock pot.
I let this cook all day. The longer your stew meat cooks the more tender.
I serve this over rice or noodles with sweet peas on the side and flaky dinner rolls.
If you wanted to make a stroganoff out of this you could add a pint of sour cream and mix it in as well.
Q: Do anyof you have an amazing beef stew recipes or tips?

Q: I am looking for tried and true beef stew recipes.?
I've made my stew many times..everyone loves it.....but I was thinking of changing it up. Hope you guys can help...thanks
A: One day I was watching the Food Network, and The Barefoot Contessa (Ina Garten) was making beef stew. She soaked the meat in wine over night in the refrigerator before making the stew. I thought that sounds really good, and I had to try it. It is the best stew I have ever had. Since Ms. Garten has a copyright on her recipes, I am posting the link to her stew recipe on foodnetwork.com. I didn't change a thing...

Q: Beef Stew!?
Looking for a really yummy beef stew recipe. 10 points to the one that looks most delicious!
A: I love stew- especially when there is a chill in the air- this one with Guinness is great on St. Pat's day, but I cook it all year!
Guinness Stew
2 pounds stewing beef, cut into 1 inch cubes
flour, for dusting
3 onions, sliced
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
4 carrots, sliced
2 celery stalks, chopped
1 bay leaf
2 fresh thyme sprigs
1 pint beef stock
1 pint stout
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
salt and pepper
For The Dumplings:
3 ½ ounces self-rising flour
1 ¾ ounces breadcrumbs
1 ¾ ounces shredded suet or crisco shortening
2 teaspoons mustard seeds
2 tablespoons fresh herbs (thyme and parsley), chopped
Toss the beef in the flour. Fry the onions in the oil for 10 minutes. Add the beef until evenly browned. Add the carrots, celery, herbs, stock and stout. Bring to the boil, stirring. Add sugar, Worcestershire sauce and season. Cover and simmer for 2 hours. Make the dumplings: mix the flour, breadcrumbs, suet, mustard seeds and herbs. Add 5 to 6 tablespoons of water and mix into a soft dough. Divide into eight, shape into balls and add to the beef. Cover and cook for 20 minutes. Serve with Guinness, of course! and a really good loaf of crusty bread!
Q: Why do so many recipes for Beef stew call for chicken broth not beef?
Some of them call for either/or but most of them call for chicken broth.
Is it because the taste of the beef broth would overpower the taste of the actual beef?
I'm going to make it with dark beer so that would take care of the dark color.
What is your preference?
A: I would never use chicken stock, it would be over powered by the beef anyway.
The beer will add colour also.
Q: Anyone have a really good recipe for beef stew?

SUPERB beef stew! I took the great base recipe, and tweaked it with a compilation of reviewer recommendations. The end result is a winner, to be sure. Here is what I did (and I won't change a thing the next time I make it): 1. Increase flour to 1/3 cup and substitute seasoned salt for regular salt. Put flour mixture into gallon-sized, zippered bag. Shake beef in bag to coat. Sauté coated beef in 1-2 tablespoons olive oil until browned. Add chopped onion to beef to sauté and soften. Transfer to slow cooker. 2. Mix beef broth (I used Swanson's Certified Organic in aseptic carton) with 1 TABLEspoon Worcestershire and ½ cup red wine. Pour into hot skillet to deglaze, then pour over beef and onions in cooker. 3. Add remaining ingredients with these additions: increase garlic to 2 cloves minced, 2 bay leaves; add 1 packet McCormick's Beef Stew Seasoning. Your home will smell wonderful all day, and your meal will be a savory feast! I served the stew in bowls, accompanied by slices of fresh, crusty bread.

Q: i'm looking for an easy beef stew recipe, someone from yahoo answers sent me an awesome one, but i can't find
the recipe was very easy , and my children loved it!!! it was something like you toss beef stew meat in flour, and used beef broth .... someone help!!! my family wants me to make stew tomorrow!!!
A: Why dont you do a 'search' thru the 'search for questions' at the top of this page......you may just find what u r looking for ! good luck.
Q: What is a simple beef stew recipe, not using too many ingredients?
I will be using store bought stew meat, white onion, carrots, celery, and potatoes. I have a seasoning packet for stew (I moved ((without moving my stuff)) recently and most of my spices are in another state), plus s&p, garlic powder, cayenne, poultry seasoning, and rosemary. And tabasco. I have flour. And beef broth. I can get red wine and already have beer.
I have a 1.5 quart casserole dish (this does not have to be a huge stew) and a fry pan and medium sized pot.
What would you do with these limited resources? I am craving stew but do not have a dutch oven....I will buy any extra ingredients (esp Leeks, red wine, bay leaves, basil/italian seasoning, guinness) if neccessary and should be getting a better pot for cooking from a friend tommorow.
I have never made stew before.
Whoa...I can't believe how many people didn't read my actual post. I specifically listed all the things I HAVE. i DON't have a dutch oven or crockpot.
A: YOu got stew as is. Stew is just a bunch of stuff you got on stock and shove in a pot. I would add chicken broth, garlic and pepper to the meat, onions, carrot, potato and celery. Beer or red wine can replace or in addition to the chicken broth. My favorite spice is thyme. The stew packet would be fine. I like my stew thick, so I add corn starch at the end.
edit. Boil it for several hours and when you add corn starch mix it with water first and slowly added to the stew so it wont make lumps. Stir it while you add the corn starch.
Q: Beef stew recipe for crock pot?
el stupido (me) asked about a beef stew recipe that was thick in consistency, but i forgot to add that i want to make it in a crock pot and cook it for a few hours......sorry....flog me if you have to.....thanks
A: CROCK POT BEEF STEW
1 lb. lean boneless beef stew, cut in sm. pieces
1 sm. can potatoes, sliced or whole, drained
1 can sliced carrots, drained
1 can cut green beans, drained
1 onion, chopped
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cream of celery soup
1 can tomato soup
Place the above ingredients in a 5 quart crock pot, stir slightly and cook until done. Serve alone or with rice.
This soup makes the gravy and there's no need to thicken it. One Caution: Don't substitute fresh potatoes for canned as they will become mushy. This is good to put on in the morning before leaving for work so that dinner is ready when you return home. All that's left to do is cook the rice and heat your bread.
